Nov. 10, 2009

BRIDGEPORT, PA - Freshman Ross Schofield (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) has been named the CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week after helping Johns Hopkins to a third-place finish at the 2009 Southern Championships. Schofield is the third different freshman for JHU to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season.

Schofield shot five-for-eight for five goals, two assists and four steals over the weekend to lead the Blue Jays. Against George Washington in a 12-5 opening round victory, he scored back-to-back goals to put the Blue Jays in front to stay. Following a one-goal performance against 12th-ranked United States Naval Academy (12-9 L) in the semifinals, he scored twice against 20th-ranked Bucknell University (9-8 W OT) in the third-place game. His second goal against the Bison came with 1:20 left in overtime and was the game-winner. The win clinched the number three seed out of the Southern Division for the 2009 Men's Eastern Championship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology next weekend.
