Henrikson Named Southern Division Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, PA - Johns Hopkins freshman goalie Erik Henrikson has been named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday. He made 22 saves with 12 steals and two assists in six-and-a-half quarters of action at the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament. His play helped Hopkins to a 3-1 showing at the tournament, including a win over top-ranked Pomona-Pitzer. In a quarter of action against Occidental, Henrikson made four saves and allowed just one goal while grabbing two steals to aid the Blue Jays in a 19-5 victory. In the nightcap, he played a quarter and a half against Division III No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, making seven saves and allowing four goals, while grabbing three steals and dishing an assist in an 11-7 loss. Henrikson's best game of the weekend came versus No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer as he backstopped Hopkins to a 10-9 victory against the No. 1-ranked Sagehens with six saves, five steals and an assist while allowing four goals. He wrapped up the weekend with five saves and two steals, while allowing just three goals in two quarters of a 10-4 win over Division III No. 7 University of Redlands. This marks Henrikson's second weekly honor from the CWPA as he shared the September 3 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award with George Washington University's Cameron Illes. Hopkins (18-5, 3-1 CWPA) returns to action on Saturday, October 13 as the Blue Jays travel to both Bucknell and Princeton for a league doubleheader.
