BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins water polo team took over the top spot in the Division III National Collegiate poll this week. It is the first time since December 1, 2005 that the Blue Jays have been the outright #1 team in Division III. In 2006, Hopkins was twice tied for #1 with the University of Redlands.

Hopkins moved up from its second-place ranking despite a tough loss at Bucknell last week. The Bison were ranked 12th in the Men's Varsity top-20 heading into the match-up. The Blue Jays received 98 points to move ahead of the University of Redlands with 95 points. Hopkins also received votes in the Men's Varsity top-20 and is ranked tied for fifth in the CWPA top-10 poll with 76 points.

Hopkins (2-6) visits Princeton on Sunday for a noon match-up. The Tigers (6-1) are currently ranked 16th in the Men's Varsity top-20. Following the match with the Tigers, the Blue Jays will travel to Bucknell for the 2007 ECAC Championships September 28-30.

The Blue Jays are led this season two-time national player of the year, Sean McCreery (Pleasant Hill, CA/ De La Salle). McCreery has totaled 23 goals in eight games so far this season. He currently ranks fourth in program history with 240 career goals. Ranking tied for second on the team with eight goals apiece are juniors Peter Davis (Riverside, CT/Greenwich) and Josh Kratz (Lansdale, PA/North Penn).
