BRIDGEPORT, PA - Johns Hopkins sophomore Danny Ovelar has been named the CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league Wednesday morning. It marks the second straight week that a Blue Jay player has earned the honor as freshman Erik Henrikson was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week last week.

Ovelar made 28 saves with 11 steals and a pair of assists in 11 quarters of action at the Princeton Invitational this past weekend. He stopped 13 shots and grabbed three steals in a 9-8 win over Brown on Saturday morning. He followed that with a 10-save, three-steal, two-assist performance in leading Hopkins to an 8-5 win over Harvard. Ovelar ended the weekend with five saves and five steals in three quarters of a 13-11 loss to MIT.

Hopkins (8-2) is back in action this weekend at the Navy Invitational as the Blue Jays play five matches in two days. Hopkins will take on Washington & Jefferson (10:15 am) and Northern Virginia (3:15 pm) at Scott Natatorium in Annapolis on Saturday, Sept. 15. JHU will then return to Baltimore to host Notre Dame (OH) at 7:00 pm at the Newton White Athletic Center. On Sunday, Hopkins returns to Annapolis to face Fordham (1 pm) and Connecticut College (3:30 pm).
