BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins water polo coach Ted Bresnahan announces his 2009 recruiting class, which features 10 players from four different states. The 10 incoming freshmen will compete for spots on the 2009 team. Hopkins finished the 2008 season as the #1 ranked team in Division III and is the defending Division III Eastern Champion.

Alex Whittam (Hillsborough, CA/Sacred Heart Prep) was a First Team West Catholic Athletic League selection and an All-American for Sacred Heart Prep. At 6'4", Andy Scott (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) brings size to the Blue Jays lineup. Scott is a two-time MVP and two-time first team all-league selection for Santa Cruz. Kielan Crow (Portola Valley, CA/Lick-Wilmerding) is a member of the Pacific Zone Olympic Development Training Squad. Charlie Wientraub (Los Angeles, CA/Harvard Westlake) helped Harvard Westlake to three Mission League championships. Gerrard Clark (Palo Alto, CA/Menlo School) was twice an All-CCL honoree and a two-year starter at the Menlo School. And closing out the group from California is Michael McCreery (Walnut Creek, CA/De La Salle). McCreery, a First Team All-NCAL selection, is the younger brother of former Hopkins standout Sean McCreery, three-time ACWPC Player of the Year.

Coming to Hopkins from Florida, are Eli Levitt (Miami, FL/Ransom Everglades) and Michael Ragheb (Miami, FL/MAST Academy). Levitt is a two-time MVP and All-Dade County selection. He also led Miami in scoring for two straight seasons and is an All-American. Ragheb brings considerable size to the Blue Jays at 6'6". He was also a two-time All-Dade County pick and two-time team MVP.

Alex Gastevich, a product of St. Ignatius Prep, brings his 6'6" size to Baltimore from Chicago, IL. He is a three-time all-conference selection, a two-time team MVP and all-state pick. Ross Schofield (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) earned team MVP honors and is an All-American.
 

 

Hopkins opens the 2009 season at the annual Navy Open, September 5-6 in Annapolis, MD.
