Johns Hopkins Adds Thirteen to ACWPC All-Academic Team
April 8, 2008
BALTIMORE, MD - Thirteen members of the Johns Hopkins water polo team have been named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic Team. In addition, the team earned All-Academic Squad honors with a cumulative GPA of 3.20. Earlier this month, the same 13 players earned All-Academic honors from the CWPA. Athletes were nominated by their coach/sports information director and were active participants on the team and a full-time student at the institution which nominated them. Further, each student-athlete must have achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or higher based on the most recent grades posted through the fall semester of the 2007-08 academic year. Student-athletes were recognized in three levels: 3.2 to 3.4 (Excellent), 3.41 to 3.7 (Superior) and 3.71 to 4.0 (Outstanding). Since 1997, 50 players have earned ACWPC All-Academic honors under head coach Ted Bresnahan. This year's group of 13 is a school record, surpassing last season in which nine Blue Jays earned the honor. Earning Outstanding honors for the Blue Jays are seniors Andrew McTammany (Hampstead, NH/Exeter), Brady Sieber (Erie, PA/McDowell) and Chris Hemmerle (Harlyesville, PA/Souderton) and sophomore Peter Sauerhoff (St. Louis, MO/John Burroughs). Earning Superior honors are juniors Chris Hutchens (Granite Bay, CA/Bellarmine Prep), sophomores Antonio Aguilera (Coral Gables, FL/Gulliver Prep), Reid Fox (Harleysville, PA/Souderton), Jamie Neuwirth (Ross, CA/Phillips Andover (MA)), Arya Zarinsefat (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) and freshman Michael de Lyon (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury).
Senior Joey Jankiewicz (Coronado, CA/ Coronado), junior Josh Kratz (Landsdale, PA/North Penn) and sophomore Kyle Gertridge (Gunn Prep/Paolo Alto, CA) all earned Excellent honors for Hopkins. |
