LEWISBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins water polo team splits its matches at the 2012 Bison Invitational on Saturday. JHU beat Toronto, 13-6, to open the day but fell 9-8 to Harvard in the nightcap. The Blue Jays are now 14-4 on the season as they close out the first month of the season.

Hopkins opened the day against Toronto, winning 13-6 behind a four-goal performance from senior Kielan Crow. It is the Blue Jays' second win in as meetings over their neighbors from the north. Hopkins led 5-2 after the first quarter and didn't look back, leading 8-3 at the half and 10-5 after three quarters. Senior Ross Schofield added a hat trick, while junior Thomas de Lyon chipped in a pair of goals and doled out a pair of assists. Senior Alex Whittam grabbed three steals and drew a pair of ejections to go along with a goal. Freshman Kevin Yee finished with three points on a goal and two helpers. Sophomore Danny Ovelar made five saves in two quarters of action, while freshman Erik Henrikson made three stops in two quarters.

In the second game of the day, Harvard edged Hopkins, avenging an earlier 8-5 loss to the Blue Jays. Harvard jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first quarter and was able to hold on for the win. Schofield, de Lyon and sophomore Johnny Beal each scored a pair of goals for the Blue Jays, while Schofield also had two helpers. Whittam led the team with four ejections drawn, while also scoring a goal and dishing out an assist. Ovelar made 10 saves while also swiping two steals in the loss.

Hopkins is back in action next week as the Blue Jays travel to Claremont, CA for the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament. Hopkins is slated to face Occidental (11:20 am PT) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (7 pm PT) on October 5. JHU will then take on Pomona-Pitzer (12:40 pm PT) and Redlands (4:40 pm PT) on October 6.
