LANCASTER, PA- Rafael Ferguson and Caroline Smith of the Johns Hopkins men's and women's indoor track & field teams, respectively, were each recognized as Centennial Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the week, the conference announced Monday.

Ferguson made his collegiate debut Sunday at the Metro Holiday Season Opener on Staten Island. He set a Hopkins freshman record and fell just .01 second shy of the overall school record in the 60m sprint with a time of 6.96 seconds. The Los Angeles native later competed in the 200m event, finishing in 22.21 seconds, the fourth-best time in Johns Hopkins history.

Smith carried over momentum from an impressive finish to her cross country season . The sophomore, who finished 12th overall at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships last month, opened up her indoor season with a first-place finish in the 3,000m run. A native of Simsbury, CT, Smith dominated the field, finishing in 10:04.94.

This is the first-career weekly honor for both Ferguson and Smith.

Hopkins will be back in action after the new year, opening the 2016 portion of its schedule on January 9 at the Father Diamond Invitational in Fairfax, VA.
