Tobochnik Earns First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Distrct Honors

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins junior Steve Tobochnik (Kalamazoo, MI/Loy Norrix) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Men's Track and Cross Country First Team it was announced today. Tobochnik, a standout on both teams at Hopkins, was one of 11 athletes named to the first team and now goes on the ballot for national Academic All-America honors.
Tobochnik guided the 2009 Johns Hopkins men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the Centennial Conference Championships and a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships. He placed seventh at the Centennial Championships and 20th at the regional meet to earn an invitation to the NCAA Division III Championships. He placed 133rd in the 276-man field at the NCAAs and garnered All-Centennial and All-Mideast Region honors with his efforts at those events.
In one of the most competitive Centennial Conference Indoor Track Championships in league history, Tobochnik helped the Blue Jays to a fifth-place team finish with a fifth-place showing in the 5,000-meter run. For the year, he posted the top two times by a JHU runner in the 3,000-meter run and the top three in the 5,000.
Tobochnik carries a 3.86 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in behavioral biology. He was named to the 2008 and 2009 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for cross country and the 2010 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for indoor track. In addition, he was also named to the 2008, 2009 and 2010 USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Teams.
The 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Cross Country and Track Team will be announced on Tuesday, June 22.
