GENEVA, OH - Johns Hopkins senior Andrew Bartnett totaled 3,355 points through the first five events in the Decathlon on the first day of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Track and Field Championships on Thursday. Bartnett currently sits in 10th place in the field of 20 competitors; the final five events will take place on Friday.

Bartnett bookended his first day with his two best performances. He clocked in at 11.49 seconds in the 100-meter dash to pick up 755 points and matched his personal best in the 400-meter with a time of 50.03 in the final event of the day. His effort in the 400 brought 813 points and was the second fastest among the 20 entries.

Between his efforts in the 100 and 400, Bartnett picked up 682 points in the long jump with a leap of 6.38 meters, 456 points in the shot put with a toss of 9.51 meters and 661 points in the high jump as he cleared 1.84 meters.

The five events scheduled for the final day include the 110-meter hurdles, the Discus, Pole Vault and Javelin and 1,500-meter run. The Pole Vault is Bartnett's specialty and sets him up for a strong finish as that event is the third of the day and is followed by the Javelin and 1,500.
