Johns Hopkins senior Adam Waddell finished the decathlon at the NCAA Championships, hosted by Marietta College, in 14th place. Waddell scored 6,389 points in the event. Waddell missed his own school record in the decathlon of 6,450 points, set at the Centennial Conference championships, by 61 points.
Waddell began day two of the decathlon competition in 10th place. He placed third in the shot put on Thursday with a 13.14 meter throw. He ran the 100 meter in 11.49 and leaped 6.09 meters in the long jump. Waddell placed eighth in the high jump with an 1.85 meter jump and finished 12th in the 400 meter dash at 51.77. The senior placed 16th in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.90. Waddell threw 35.02 meters in the discus for seventh place. He placed 11th in the pole vault at a height of 3.95 meters and threw the javelin 46.94 meters for 10th place. He rounded out Friday with the 1,500 meter run, placing 11th with a time of 4:53.86.
Waddell owns the school records in the indoor pentathlon, with 3,035 points, and the outdoor decathlon record, set at the 2009 Centennial Conference championships, at 6,450 points.
