Hopkins Takes Eighth at Centennial Championships May 5, 2002
COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team finished eighth at the 2002 Centennial Conference Championships this weekend at Ursinus College. The Blue Jays totaled 40 points to finish just 11 points out of sixth place.
Junior Quinlan Amos led the Blue Jays as he scored in three individual events over the weekend. Amos took second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13 and second in the 200-meter dash with his best time of the year (22.18). Amos concluded the championships with 22 points as he finished third in the long jump with his best mark of the season (21' 2.0"). He also contributed relay legs for the 4x100 and 4x400 teams.
Senior John Apperson and sophomore Ben Stopper each recorded top-ten finishes. Stopper scored four points as he finished tied for fifth with a mark of 19' 11.75", while Apperson was seventh in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 1:56.20 and totaled two points. Senior Ryan Holak scored a point in the javelin as he recorded his best throw of the season (158' 2.0") to take eighth place. Sophomore Eric Simone rounded out the individual scoring for JHU as he took seventh in the decathlon with 3,222 total points.
Three relay teams brought in points, with the 4x100 relay of Amos, Stopper, and freshmen Brian Wolcott and Jesse Fulton team finishing the highest in fifth place with a time of 43.77. The Blue Jays scored three points in the 4x800 meter relay as the team finished sixth with a time of 8:31.50, while the 4x400 team of Amos, Stopper, Apperson, and sophomore Alex Gochal was seventh with a time of 3:24.95. The 4x100 and 4x400 times were the third fastest in school history.
