GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team finished eighth at the 2003 Centennial Conference Track and Field Championships this weekend at Gettysburg College. The Blue Jays totaled 41 points, while Haverford won with 177 total points.

Senior Quinlan Amos (Houston, TX) led the Blue Jays as he placed in the top ten in three events and totaled 11 points. Amos was third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.31, finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 20'1" and placed eighth in the 200-meter dash at a 27.85 pace.

Senior Rajeev Mahajan earned eight points as he placed second in the high jump with an ECAC qualifying and season-best mark of 6'2.75". Freshman Tai Kobayashi (Rolling Hills, CA/Phillips Exeter Academy) was fifth in the high jump with a jump of 5'10.75".

Freshman Derrick Norgriff (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and junior Justin Leck (Washington, KS/Washington) also recorded top-five finishes at the championships. Norgriff was fifth in the discus with a season-best throw of 125'1", while Leck placed fifth in the decathlon with 4218 points.
 

 

Senior John Onofrey (Needham, MA/Needham) and freshman Ted Esborn (Cleveland, OH/Saint Ignatius) also performed well on the day. Onofrey was seventh in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:03.43 and 13th in the 5,000-meter run at a 15:49.10 pace, while Esborn placed sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 11'6.5".

The Blue Jays return to action Sunday, May 12 as Hopkins travels to Villanova University for the Tuppeny Classic.
