Bartnett Wins Pole Vault at Mason Spring Invitational
FAIRFAX, VA- The Johns Hopkins men’s track and field team competed at the 2016 Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday. The event, which was hosted by George Mason University, consisted of mostly Division I programs.
Andrew Bartnett was the highlight for the Blue Jays, winning the pole vault with a 5.20m mark. Bartnett also competed in the 200m race, finishing in 23.14 seconds. Bartnett’s teammate Alex Kossak successfully leaped 4.15m in the pole vault.
Leading the way in the 400m dash for Hopkins was Zach Shelley, who crossed the finish line in 51.93 seconds. Shelley beat out teammate Dominic Yared, who completed the race in 52.69 seconds.
Brandon Fielder was the top Blue Jay in the 1500m run, finishing in 4:03.31. Same Gattuso (4:10.87), Billy Scola (4:13.33), Giacomo Taylor (4:13.87) and Stefan Arnold (4:17.71) also competed in the event for JHU.
In the 5000m run it was Marshall Demaree who crossed the finish line first for Hopkins, doing so in 15:52.39.
Matt Kosarek recorded the best javelin throw for Hopkins, with a 45.85m mark.
The Blue Jays will be back in action next Thursday and Friday. at the Mount Multi Meet and next Saturday for their only home meet of the season, the JHU/Loyola Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00am at the Hopkins/Loyola track.
