A severe thunderstorm and heavy rain forced the cancellation of the Terrapin Invitational track and field meet after the completion of just five events on Saturday.
The event, which had drawn 40 teams from around the northeast, will not be made up.
Around 11:30 a.m., warnings of lightning in the area forced the suspension of action. After an hour of heavy rain, the facility was too wet to continue the meet in a safe fashion.
A 'B' section of the men's and women's 5,000 meters was added to the early part of the schedule, due to a high number of entrants in that event. Those sections were completed prior to the rain, with Ashley Vann of Howard winning the women's 5K in 18:36.12. Hopkins' Jacci Clauss placed 12th at 20:14.82.
Six Blue Jays finished in the top 20 of the men's 5K, led by Patrick Brandon's ninth-place finish at 16:20.35.
Shane Young of Georgetown won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 9:24.44, while Anne Martin of Yale out-kicked Carrie Strickland of Princeton to win the women's steeplechase in 10:57.80. Hopkins' Eric Scrivner finished 10th at 10:01.59 in the men's run.
Morgan State won the women's 4x100 relay in 47.24, the final event contested before the rain delay.
