Hopkins Defeats York, 94-45, in Dual Meet March 25, 2003

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team defeated York College, 94-45, in dual meet action this afternoon in Baltimore. The Blue Jays earned the top spot in 11 of 16 events and had the top two finishers in six events.
Hopkins won all but one of the nine running events and swept the top three spots in the 100-meter dash and the 3,000-meter run. Senior Quinlan Amos (Houston, TX) took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.99 and was followed by freshmen Tai Kobayashi (Rolling Hills, CA/Phillips Exeter Academy) and Sean Morgan (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) with times of 11.79 and 11.93, respectively.
In the 3,000-meter run, senior John Onofrey (Needham, MA/Needham) was first at 9:00.7 pace, while freshman Nick Sousa (Foxboro, MA) and senior Jamie Parks (Seaford, DE/Seaford) were second and third with times of 9:17.5 and 9:22.7, respectively.
Also placing first in the running events were junior Andy Myers (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington), freshmen Shane Olaleye (Fordham Prep) and Andrew Bauerschmidt (Carle Place, NY/Carle Place), Andrew Chung, and Morgan. Myers won the 1,500-meter run at a 4:30.8 pace, Olaleye placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.23, Bauerschmidt won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.92, Chung took the 400-meter hurdles race at a 1:02.9 pace and Morgan placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.85.
The Blue Jays won three field events, including a sweep of the long jump. Amos placed first in the long jump with a mark of 18'9.5", while senior Shawn Liu (Orange, CT/Amity Regional) was second (18'8") and junior Ben Stopper (Reinholds, PA/Conrad Weiser) placed third (17'9").
Freshman Derrick Norgriff (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) won the shot put with a throw of 40'7" and also placed second in the discus with a mark of 119'9". Sophomore Justin Leck finished first in the javelin with a throw of 144'5".
The Blue Jays return to action Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29 as Hopkins travels to compete in the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University.
