Amos and Onofrey Set School Records at St. Valentine Meet Feb. 19, 2003
BOSTON, MA - Seniors Quinlan Amos (Houston, TX) and John Onofrey (Needham, MA/Needham), the lone Blue Jays to compete, both shattered school records at the St. Valentine Meet at Boston University on Saturday.
Amos, who competed in three events on the day, broke his own record in the 200-meter dash as he posted a time of 22.21 to win the developmental sections of the event. The previous record was 22.75, which he set during the 2000 season and tied earlier this year at the College Classic at Christopher Newport University. Amos also competed in the 55-meter dash and finished third in his preliminary heat with a time of 6.64.
Onofrey competed in the 3000-meter run and posted a time of 8:46.92 to break the school record of 8:51.93 set by Drew Kitchen during the 1999 season. His previous best in the event was 8:59.32 set earlier this season at the Widener Invitational on February 1.
On the women's side, senior Nikki Gross (York, PA/York Suburban) and junior Aline Bernard (Nashville, TN/Hume Fogg) were the lone competitors for Hopkins. Gross placed 13th in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:30.43, while Bernard was 17th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:11.73, her best of the year.
The Blue Jays are next in action on Saturday as Hopkins travels to Kutztown, Pennsylvania for a meet against Kutztown University.
