WILIMINGTON, DE - The Johns Hopkins men’s indoor track and field team finished in third place at the Thomson Invitational, as host by the University of Delaware on Friday night and Saturday. Hopkins collected 87 points en route to its third place finish. The Lions of The College of New Jersey finished in first with 254.5 points.

Junior Garrett Butler (Ridfeley, WV/Franfort) was the first Blue Jay to score, as he posted a leap of 4.10 meters, which earned him a first place finish in the pole vault, and 10 team points for JHU. Classmate Ted Esbron (Cleveland, OH/Saint Ignatius) earned a fourth place finish in the event with a 3.65 meter leap. Esborn collected five team points for the Blue Jays.

Sophomore Jason Dubyoski (Upperco, MD/Hereford) finished in fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.79, picking up five points for the Blue Jays. Junior Tai Kobayashi (Rolling Hills, CA/Phillips Exeter) ran a time of 9.06 in the hurdles, good for sixth place and three team points. In the 60-meter dash, freshman Tristan Thomas (Powder Springs, GA/John McEachern) and junior Jacob Breecker (Kerkely, CA/Bishop O’Dowd) ran times of 7.34 and 7.44, respectively, to finish in seventh and eight places.

Sophomore Shane Olaleye (Warren, NJ/Newark Academy) ran a time of 51.61 in the 400-meter dash, good for third place and six team points. Junior David Dieerker (Honolulu, HI/Shape International) finished in sixth place in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.50. In the 200 meter dash, Dubyoski and Breecker posted sixth and seventh place finishes, which earned the team five total points.

The 500-meter run, saw four Blue Jays finish in the top nine, collecting a total of 10 team points. Junior Aaron Landgraf (Albuquerque, MN/Albuquerque Academy) led the pack with a third place finish with a time of 1:10.20. Freshman Eric Miller (Huntingdon Vall, Pa/Abington) ran a time of 1:11.11, good for sixth, and freshman James Bronson (Santa Anna, CA/Foothill) and sophomore Brian Giglio (Toms River, NJ) finished in the eighth and ninth places with times of 1:12.56 and 1:14.19.


 

 

Junior Andrew Bauerschmidt (Carle Place, NY/Carle Place) ran a 4:32.25 mile time to finish in second place in the mile run. Freshman Patrick Brandon (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) was just behind Bauerschmidt, with a time of 4:37.64, good for sixth place. In the 1000 meter run, freshman Jason Hortiatis (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) finished in fifth place in a time of 2:24.07. In the 3000-meter run, junior Gabe Tonkin (Baltimore, MD) and Travis Koh turned in times of 9:38.50 and 9:59.30, respectively to finish fifth and sixth in the event.

The Blue Jays will return this Sunday when they participate in the Keough Invitational as hosted by Haverford.
