NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Johns Hopkins men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the College Indoor Classic at Christopher Newport University this past weekend. The Blue Jays posted several solid results, but there was no team scoring at the meet.

Senior Quinlan Amos (Houston, TX) led the men's team as he placed among the top five in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash and tied two of his own school records. Amos placed third in the 200-meter race and his school record with a time of 22.75. He also tied his school record with a mark of 21'1.50" in the long jump to place 16th out of 29 competitors. Amos also finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.12 after placing second in his heat at a 7.08 pace.

Junior Steve Chu (Columbia, MD/River Hill) finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:10.59, while senior John Onofrey (Needham, MA/Needham) was 11th in a field of 33 in the 1,500-meter run at a 4:09.80 pace. Freshman Derrick Norgriff (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) also performed well in the shot put as placed 16th out of 37 competitors with a throw of 40'11.75".
 

 

Junior Aline Bernard (Nashville, TN/Hume Fogg) was the top finisher for the women as she was third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:14.85. Senior Nikki Gross (York, PA/York Suburban) placed 16th in a field of 34 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.68, while sophomore Maureen Kimsey (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) finished 14th out of 29 competitors in the 1,500-meter run at a 5:15.37 pace. Senior Jackie Evans (State College, PA/State College) recorded a throw of 33'10.25" to finish 11th out of 26 in the shot put.

The Blue Jays return to action Saturday, February 1 as Hopkins travels to Chester, Pennsylvania for the Widener Invitational.
