BALTIMORE, MD - For the second year in a row and third in the last four years, the Johns Hopkins men's tennis team finished the season ranked in the top 15 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). In the final poll of the season, the Blue Jays are ranked 13th nationally and fourth in the Atlantic South region. In addition, recent graduate David Maldow (Jericho, NY/Jericho) is ranked 15th nationally in singles and 13th in doubles with rising senior Andrew Wang (Sparta, NJ/Sparta). Wang is ranked 40th in singles in the nation.

This season Hopkins won a school-record 21 matches en route to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. The Blue Jays claimed their fourth straight Centennial Conference title and fifth in the last six years. Hopkins, which was ranked as high as eighth this season, finished at 21-6. The Blue Jays have been ranked nationally in each of the last 27 polls, dating back to May 8, 2006. In addition, Hopkins has been ranked in top 15 in 13 of the last 14 polls. In 2011, head coach Chuck Willenborg returns six starters and welcomes in a freshmen class that is ranked eighth in Division III by tennisrecruiting.net.

Maldow finishes his career ranked 15th nationally and third in the Atlantic South. He has been ranked nationally throughout his career, climbing as high as ninth in the final poll of 2008. He finished the season with a 20-8 singles mark (5-0 in conference) and was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Maldow also earned First Team All-Centennial Conference honors in both singles and doubles and was named the ITA Atlantic South Senior Player of the Year as well as an ITA All-American in singles. Maldow graduated as the program's all-time winningest player in singles (80), doubles (68) and total wins (148).

Wang is ranked in the ITA's final poll of the season for the second straight year. He was ranked 16th in the nation in 2009 and is 40th in this year's final poll. He is also ranked ninth in the Atlantic South. Wang went 17-6 in singles this season, earning First Team All-Centennial Conference honors in both singles and doubles. He enters his senior season ranked second in singles wins (59), fourth in doubles wins (56) and second in total wins (115) in program history.

Maldow and Wang paired to go 15-13 this season, falling in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship. The pair have played together in each of the last three seasons and are ranked 13th nationally and third in the region. Also earning a regional ranking are sophomore Jacob Barnaby (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) and junior Casey Blythe (Louisville, KY/Saint Xavier). The duo, which has played together for the last two years, is ranked ninth in the Atlantic South. The pair went 24-7 this season, including an unblemished 6-0 in conference, and earned First Team All-Centennial Conference honors for the second consecutive season.
