BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins sophomore David Maldow (Jericho, NY/Jericho) has been named the National Player to Watch by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. He won a school-record 24 singles matches in 2008 as he helped JHU to its second straight Centennial Conference Championship.
The Atlantic South Rookie of the Year and an All-American last season, Maldow went 24-5 in singles this season, including an 8-0 mark in the Centennial. In doubles play, he went 18-8 overall and 8-0 in the conference. He made his second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship and advanced to the second round before falling to the eventual runner-up in three sets.
He finished his sophomore campaign ranked fourth in program history with 42 career singles wins, sixth in career doubles wins (33) and fifth with 75 total wins. A two-time All-Centennial Conference selection, Maldow is the #1 ranked singles player in the Atlantic South.
