Carey Named Centennial Conference Player of the Week
LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins freshman Aaron Carey has been named the Centennial Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week it was announced Monday. Carey helped Johns Hopkins to a trio of wins last week as the Blue Jays finished the regular season with a 14-2 record, including a 9-0 mark in the conference.
Carey is the fourth Blue Jay to earn Centennial Conference Player of the Week honors this season. This is his first career honor from the conference.
Carey went 3-0 in singles last week in Hopkins wins over 17th-ranked Mary Washington, Washington College and 31st-ranked Swarthmore. Against the Eagles on Monday afternoon, he came from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9) at sixth singles. On Wednesday, Carey clinched the Blue Jays’ win over the Shoremen with a 6-2, 6-3 win at second singles. At Swarthmore, he also clinched Hopkins’ win with a 6-4, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
Hopkins earned the top seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament and will host the semifinals and finals on May 6 & 7 at the JHU Tennis Courts. Hopkins will face the winner of the Franklin & Marshall and Washington College at 11:00 am on May 6.
