Final Stats

MOBILE, AL - Junior David Maldow (Jericho, NY/Jericho) and sophomore Andrew Wang (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) finished in sixth place at the 2008 ITA National Small College Championships in doubles Friday. The pair, who earned All-America honors by winning the ITA Southeast Regional, is the first in program history to ever advance to the championships.

The duo opened the championships against second-seeded Amrit Rupasinghe/Ben Stein (Bates). Rupasinghe and Stein held on for a 6-4, 6-4 win in the opening round. Maldow and Wang then faced Patrick Whitner/Alex Stoler (NYU) in the consolation bracket. The duo won 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the fifth place match on Friday afternoon.

In the fifth-place match, Maldow and Wang faced off against fourth-seeded Ilya Gendeliman/Max Liberty-Point (UC Santa Cruz). Gendeliman and Liberty-Point won the match 6-4, 6-2 to finish in fifth place.

This wraps up the fall portion of the Blue Jays schedule as they will next compete on March 13, 2009 against the Saints of Flagler. Maldow carries a 47-13 career singles record and a 39-17 career doubles record into the spring. He is tied for second in program history in singles wins and is fourth in doubles wins. Wang brings a 26-9 career singles record and a 26-12 career doubles record into the spring. That places him in the top 10 in program history in both categories.
