Buxbaum and Walsh Place Sixth at ITA Oracle Cup
SURPRISE, AZ -- Johns Hopkins seniors Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh placed sixth in the Division III doubles draw at the 2016 ITA Oracle Cup at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex. The pair was making its fourth straight appearance at the tournament, formerly known as the ITA National Small College Championship.
Buxbaum and Walsh, seeded number one in the draw, suffered a tough 6-3, 7-6 (3) loss to Nikolai Parodi and Glenn Hull of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the quarterfinals. In the back draw, the pair then beat Zack Ebenfeld and Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez of RPI 6-1, 6-3. Buxbaum and Walsh lost in the fifth-place match to Tyler Raclin and Max Hawkins of Chicago 6-3, 7-6 (3).
Buxbaum now has 70 career doubles wins, ranking him fourth in program history. Walsh is now tied for sixth with 68 career doubles wins. The pair finished sixth in 2015, seventh in 2014 and fifth in 2013 at the championship.
