Box Score

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Senior David Maldow (Jericho, NY/Jericho) lost in the 2009 ITA Southeast Regional Singles Finals Monday, falling in straight sets. In the Championship Doubles Draw, sophomore Jacob Barnaby (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) and junior Casey Blythe (Louisville, KY/Saint Xavier) lost in the semifinals.

In the semifinals, top-seeded Maldow, squared off against fourth-seeded Eric Shulman (Christopher Newport) in a rematch of last year's semifinal match. Maldow once again got the better of Shulman, this time in straight sets. He beat Shulman, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the finals for the third time in his career. There he met sixth-seeded Hayden White (Washington & Lee). White went on to win the title, beating Maldow, 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, in the consolation bracket, sophomore Michael Chang (Winston Salem, NC/Forsyth County Day School) lost his semifinals match to Riley Baver (Mary Washington), 6-3, 6-2.

In the doubles draw, third-seeded Barnaby and Blythe met second-seeded Scott Burtzlaff and Evan Thomas (Salisbury). Burtzlaff and Thomas won 8-4 to advance to the finals. The loss for Barnaby and Blythe was their first since March 17, 2009, snapping a streak of 18 consecutive wins for the pair.

The ITA Southeast Regional wraps up the fall portion of Johns Hopkins schedule. The Blue Jays return to the court in February 19 at the 2010 ITA National Division III Men's Indoor Championship in St. Peter, MN. Sixth-seeded Hopkins will take on third-seeded Washington University in the first round.
