Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team defeated Muhlenberg, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

The Blue Jays improved to 5-5 overall and 5-3 in the league with the win, their fifth straight victory, while the Mules fell to 5-6 overall and 2-5 in league play.

Sophomore Krishna Potarazu (Potomac, MD/Wootton) and freshman Nick Kennedy (Tucson, AZ/Deerfield Academy) defeated Jeff Kraft and Mitch Reading 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, while senior Grant Roch (Cedarburg, WI/Cedarburg) and sophomore Michael Kelly-Sell (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) topped Brad Gutwillig and Adam Nodiff 8-4 at No. 2. Senior Aaron Ong (Florence, KY/Boone County) and freshman Andrew Chang (Norato, CA/San Francisco University) won by default at No. 3 doubles.
 

 

Kraft needed a third set tiebreaker to defeat senior Justin Chan (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 1 singles for Muhlenberg, but Hopkins won the other five singles matches to post the victory. Potarazu knocked off Reading 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, junior Justin Belisario (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) topped Gutwillig 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 and Kelly-Sell posted a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Nodiff at No. 4 for the Blue Jays. Kennedy defeated Michael DiVita 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, while Roch won by default at No. 6.

The Blue Jays will compete in the Centennial Conference Individual Championships this Friday through Sunday at Haverford College.
