Lancaster, PA - Franklin & Marshall took five of six singles matches to post a 5-2 victory over Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon.

The Diplomats improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, while the Blue Jays fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Hopkins opened the match by winning the doubles point, as senior Grant Roch (Cedarburg, WI/Cedarburg) and sophomore Michael Kelly-Sell (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) defeated Eric Ellison and Ben Michelman 8-4 at No. 2 while senior Aaron Ong (Florence, KY/Boone County) and freshman Andrew Chang (Norato, CA/San Francisco University) topped Alex Levy and Alex Sanchez 8-6 at No. 3. Alex Chester and Dan Lindenberg posted an 8-6 victory over senior Justin Chan (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) and junior Justin Belisario (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) at No. 1 doubles for the Diplomats.
 

 

Franklin & Marshall then won the first four singles matches to record the victory. Chester defeated Chan 7-6 (7), 6-0 at No. 1, while Levy posted a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 comeback win over Belisario at No. 2. Andrew Mayer also needed three sets to top Kelly-Sell 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 at No. 3, and Lindenberg defeated Roch 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4.

Freshman Nick Kennedy (Tucson, AZ/Deerfield Academy) posted the lone singles win for the Blue Jays as he defeated Sanchez 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5, while Michelman topped Ong 6-3, 7-6 (3) at No. 6.

Hopkins travels to Goucher on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match with the Gophers.
