BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins men's swimmer Jon Kleinman and women's swimmer Jessica Chang have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Teams for the College At-Large Division. Kleinman and Chang were selected to the men's and women's first teams, respectively, and will now compete for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on June 14.

Kleinman, a senior from North Oaks, Minnesota, led the Hopkins men's swimming team to a third-place finish at the 2005 NCAA Championships, where he placed 10th in the both the 500 freestyle and the 400 individual medley and finished 12th in the 1650 freestyle. Kleinman, who captained the team this year, was a first-team All-American as a junior and an honorable mention All-American in his first two years.

Out of the pool, Kleinman excelled as a neuroscience major at Hopkins. He was the treasurer of the biological honor society and he helped set up the new neuroscience lab for the fall of 2004. He was also a member of the pre-med honor society, SAAC, and the Teaching Excellence Committee.

Chang, a junior from Penfield, New York, swam in four events at the 2005 NCAAs to help the lady Blue Jays to an 11th-place finish. She placed 14th in the 100 breaststroke and was a member of the 200 medley relay team that finished 12th. Earlier in the season, Chang set the school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05:25.

Chang was a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-District selection last year, and she helped Hopkins to ninth-place and sixth-place finishes in her first two years. She is a biology major with a minor in psychology.

The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. To be nominated for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America, program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on his or her team.
