JHU Swimmer Scott Armstrong Honored In Sports Illustrated
Feb. 13, 2003 Johns Hopkins senior men's swimmer Scott Armstrong (Medford Lakes, NJ/West Morris Central/Bernards) is included in this week's issue of Sports Illustrated, as he is honored in the magazine's Faces In The Crowd section. At the Miami Invitational on December 5, Armstrong broke the NCAA Division III record by more than five seconds while winning the 1650 freestyle in 15:20.62. At the same meet, he won the 400 individual medley in 3:58.31, setting a new school record in the event. Armstrong also took the 500 freestyle in 4:27.52 at Miami. Armstrong won the 1650 freestyle and the 500 freestyle at the Thomas Murphy Invitational on the campus of Loyola College on November 2, and went on to capture the 1650 freestyle the following weekend at the Emory Invitational. He won the 500 freestyle and 1000 freestyle in a dual meet at No. 16 North Carolina on November 16, and took the 400 individual medley and 500 freestyle in a tri-meet with West Chester and The College of New Jersey on January 17-18. Recently he won the 500 freestyle and 1000 freestyle on January 31 in a dual meet at UMBC.
