BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins junior swimmer Nick Schmidt has been named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week as announced on Tuesday afternoon. It is the first time in his career that he has earned the honor and he is the first JHU men's swimmer to earn the honor this season.

Schmidt was a three-event winner for Johns Hopkins against the US Naval Academy on Friday. The Blue Jays won eight of the 14 swimming events (the meet was swam in short course meters) but fell by just 11 points in a 135.5-124.5 loss in their final dual meet of the season. Schmidt won the 400 Free (4:05.18), 200 Fly (2:07.04) and the 400 Free Relay (3:30.09 - 51.90 split).

Schmidt has posted NCAA B times in the 500 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly and 400 Medley Relay. He has also automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship as a member of the 800 Free Relay. Schmidt and Johns Hopkins return to the pool on Wednesday for the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship in Charlotte, NC.
