Hopkins Men's Swimming Places Third At Miami Of Ohio Invitational

Oxford, OH - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team totaled 1,053.50 points to finish third out of eight schools this weekend at the Miami of Ohio Invitational. The Blue Jay 800 freestyle relay team of sophomore Brian Sneed (Chattanooga, TN/McCallie), senior Kyle Robinson (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional), senior Oliver Buccicone (Rochester, MN/Lourdes), and freshman Rich Guerard (Chatham, NJ/Morristown-Beard) won its event in 6:52.36. The 200 medley relay team of freshman Kevin Walsh (Athens, GA/Cedar Shoals), sophomore Tyler Harris (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster), Sneed, and Kyle Robinson finished fourth in 1:34.01, while the team of junior J.P. Balfour (Plano, TX/Plano East), senior Loren Robinson (Coats, NC/Triton), sophomore Sean Kim (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch), and junior Paul Zalewski (St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood) came in seventh in 1:35.85.
Senior Scott Pitz (Paoli, PA/Conestoga) led Hopkins by finishing second in the 100 breaststroke in 57.17, while Harris was 10th in 57.36. Sophomore Zane Hamilton (Chattanooga, TN/McCallie) placed 12th in 59.58, and Robinson came in 14th in 59.76. Walsh placed sixth in the 100 backstroke in 52.27, while junior Jon Kleinman (North Oaks, MN/Mounds View) was ninth in the 400 individual medley in 4:06.96 and freshman Derek Monette (Templeton, MA/Gardner) finished 12th in 4:11.60.
Kyle Robinson placed third in the 200 freestyle in 1:41.85, while Guerard was seventh in 1:43.61, Buccicone was eighth in 1:44.62, and freshman David Strickland (Houston, TX/Strake Jesuit College Prep) came in 13th in 1:44.09 in the consolation final. Sneed led the Blue Jays by finishing a team-best seventh in the 100 butterfly in 50.45, while freshman Keith Parent (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional) was 14th in 52.09. Kim followed in 15th place in 52.15, and senior Matt McKee (Rocky River, OH/St. Edward) was right behind in 16th in 52.25. The Blue Jays scored points Sunday morning but departed before the evening session. Sophomore Matt Chana (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) finished third in the 1650 freestyle in 15:44.36, while Kleinman came in sixth in 16:06.22. Guerard was 13th in 16:31.36, just ahead of Monette, who placed 15th in 16:49.22. The 400 freestyle relay team of Harris, Walsh, Kyle Robinson, and Sneed finished third in 3:06.95, while the team of Strickland, Zalewski, Buccicone, and McKee was ninth in 3:12.92. In the preliminaries Sunday morning, Pitz was first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:05.23 while Harris was second in 2:05.93. Hamilton finished 12th in 2:08.93, while Loren Robinson was 15th in 2:10.74. Sneed finished third in the 200 butterfly in 1:52.28, while sophomore Gary Itskovich (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) was sixth in 1:54.22 and Kim placed 10th in 1:55.18. Parent finished 12th in 1:55.53, Buccicone came in 16th in 1:56.11, and senior Dan Hake (Redding, CT/Wilton) finished 18th in 1:59.67. Kyle Robinson led JHU in the 100 freestyle by placing fifth in 46.68, while Walsh was 12th in 47.68 and Strickland was 14th in 47.83. Balfour came in seventh in the 200 backstroke in 1:53.54, while Monette was 10th in 1:55.63 and McKee was 12th in 1:57.00. The Blue Jays return to action on January 16-17 when Hopkins takes on the College of New Jersey and West Chester in Ewing, NJ. -30- |
