Hopkins Men In Fifth Place Entering Final Day of Miami Invite Dec. 3, 2005
OXFORD, OH - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team is in fifth place out of 10 teams, while the women are 12th out of 13 after the second day of competition at the 12th annual Miami Invitational. Several Blue Jays on both the men's and women's teams qualified for the NCAAs with A or B-cut performances in the Day 2 events. After a morning of preliminaries, freshman Kristin Cunningham, freshman Jacqueline Rooney, freshman Kate Hansen, and senior Kalei Walker swam in the 200 freestyle relay final and qualified for the NCAAs with a B-cut time of 1:39.51. Sophomore Bradley Test, senior Tyler Harris, junior Kevin Walsh, and senior Zane Hamilton placed fifth in the 200 freestyle relay with a B-cut time of 1:23.96, while the relay team from Oakland University set the meet record in the event. Several Hopkins men's swimmers earned spots in the A finals of the Day 2 events. Senior Sean Kim finished third in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.13, good for an A-cut qualifier to the NCAAs. Freshman Robert Sershon placed ninth with a B-cut time of 1:55.25.
In the 200 free, junior Rich Guerard finished seventh at 1:41.94, another B-cut time for Hopkins. The 100 breast saw seniors Tyler Harris (57.14) and Zane Hamilton (58.12) earn fifth and seventh place, respectively, with more B-cut times. In the 100 backstroke, junior Ryan Kim finished fourth at 51.07 (B-cut), while in the 400 IM freshman Colin Kleinguetl placed eighth with a time of 4:09.93 (B-cut).
