Final Stats

GAMBIER, OH - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team completed an impressive showing at the 2007 Nike Cup Invitational with a third place finish with 515.5 points. In the three day event, the Blue Jays broke seven pool records and six Johns Hopkins' records. Senior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School) and sophomore John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose) each broke two individual records and were part of two record-breaking relay teams over the weekend.

Hopkins opened the final day by winning the 200 Medley Relay with a pool and school record time of 1:31.38. That time was also an NCAA Division III A qualifying time. Swimming the relay were Thomas, Fedderly, junior Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) and senior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy).

In the following event, Thomas swam a school and pool record time of 1:48.94 in the 200 Back. His time was also a DIII A time. Junior Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) then finished in 12th in the 500 Free with a season-best time of 4:43.22. Sershon followed that with an eighth place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 50.97. His prelim time of 50.88 was a career best, while his finals time is a DIII B time.

Fedderly broke the pool record in the 200 Breast, winning the event with a career best and DIII B time of 2:04.15. In the next event, Test won the 100 Free with a DIII A time of 44.87. His prelim time of 44.83 broke his own school record and the pool record. In the 200 IM, sophomore Neil Mahoney (Excelsior, MN/Minnetonka) took fourth (1:56.23) and Fedderly took sixth (2:04.58).

Hopkins closed out the day the way it began, breaking a school record. The Blue Jays finished second in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:02.21. That DIII A time broke a 13-year Hopkins' record.

Hopkins is off for the remainder of the calendar year and return to action on January 12, 2008 when Rowan visits Baltimore for an 11:00 am meet.
