BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team had eight first-place finishes and won eight of 14 events en route to a 136-126 win over Yale in the teams' first meeting in recent history. Six Johns Hopkins' men qualified for the NCAAs while the Bulldogs defeated the Blue Jays on the side, 174-84.

Johns Hopkins opened the day with a one-two finish in the 200 medley relay as Ryan Kim, Tyler Harris, Brian Sneed and Brad Test placed first, and J.P. Balfour, Matt Fedderly, Dan Kim and Andrew Stern came in right behind them. The winning time of 1:35.25 qualified the Blue Jay team for the NCAAs.

Yale won the next three men's events - the 1000 free, 200 free and 100 back - but Johns Hopkins' Matt Fedderly finished first in the 100 breaststroke, Sean Kim won the 200 fly and Test took first in the 50 free to put the Blue Jays back ahead, 66-65, at the first break.

Test's time in the 100 free (47.68) edged Yale's Andrew Foss (47.73) for another first-place finish, and Fedderly and Zane Hamilton placed first and second in the 200 breaststroke to give Johns Hopkins the lead for good. Sneed and Sean Kim went one-two in the 100 fly and Balfour placed first in the 200 individual medley to cap the win.

In addition to Johns Hopkins' eight first-place finishes, Ryan Kim met NCAA qualifying times in both the 100 and 200 back at 52.55 and 1:54.63, respectively. He placed second in both events. Fedderly's time of 2:09.00 in the 200 breaststroke and Sean Kim's time of 1:54.90 in the 200 fly also met qualifying standards.

On the women's side, Kalei Walker took first in the 200 free and Jessica Chang won the 100 breaststroke to keep the Blue Jays within reach of Yale, 58-32, after the first five events. The Bulldogs surged to a 113-53 lead in the next four events before Chang won two more events, the 200 breaststroke and 100 fly.
