The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team finished first while the women placed second at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational this weekend.
The Blue Jay men finished with 979 points, followed by Emory with 820.5 points, Carnegie Mellon with 808 points, and Case Western Reserve with 436.5 points. Emory won the women's meet with 1,119.5 points, while Hopkins came in second with 835 points. Carnegie Mellon was third with 561.5 points, and Case Western Reserve placed fourth with 539 points.
Senior Scott Pitz (Paoli, PA/Conestoga) led the Hopkins men by winning the 200 breaststroke in a pool-record 2:05.12 and the 100 breaststroke in 58.68, while senior Kyle Robinson (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) took the 100 freestyle in 47.60.
Sophomore Sean Kim (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) captured the 200 butterfly in 1:55.31, while junior J.P. Balfour (Plano, TX/Plano East) won the 100 backstroke in 52.87. The other event winner for the men was sophomore Brian Sneed (Chattanooga, TN/McCallie), who took the 500 freestyle in 4:42.79.
Sophomore Jessica Chang (Penfield, NY/Penfield) paced the Blue Jay women by winning the 100 breaststroke in a pool-record 1:06.69, while sophomore Sida Liu (Phoenix, AZ/North Canyon) took the 100 butterfly in 59.03.
Hopkins returns to action on November 14-15 when both Blue Jay teams compete in the Thomas Murphy Invitational on the campus of nearby Loyola College. Friday's action starts at 5 p.m., while Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m.
