ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team competed against its second Division I opponent of the season Friday afternoon, falling 154-108 at Maryland. The Blue Jays fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Terps opened the season at 1-0. Senior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) won two individual events to lead Hopkins.

Hopkins opened with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomore John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose), senior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh), junior Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) and Test combined for a time of 1:34.92. Junior Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) then won the 1000 Free with a time of 9:51.70.

Sophomore Neil Mahoney (Minneapolis, MN/Minnetonka) then took second in the 200 Free with a time of 1:44.66. Freshman Alex Hsieh (Beijing, China/International School of Beijing) finished in third with a time of 1:44.67. Thomas followed that with a win in the 100 Back finishing in 52.17. Freshman Chris Deal (Houston, TX/Memorial) finished in fourth with a time of 56.46.

In the 100 Breast, Fedderly took third (58.87) while freshman Brian Keeley (Rockford, MI/Rockford) took fourth (58.88). Kleinguetl followed that with a second place finish in the 200 Fly (1:56.06), while freshman Jonathan Pool (Gaithersburg, MD/Georgetown Prep) took third (1:57.71). Test won the 50 Free (20.98) and the 100 Free (45.99). Mahoney finished in second in the 100 Free with a time of 47.90.
 

 

Thomas placed third in the 200 Back, finishing in 1:56.38 while Deal took fourth (2:04.28) and junior David Postetter (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) took fifth (2:05.15). Fedderly finished in second in the 200 Breast (2:07.80) while Keeley claimed third (2:08.01). Hsieh finished in fourth in the 500 Free (4:50.27), while Sershon took fourth in the 100 Fly (52.89).

Wrapping up the individual events, Keeley finished in third in the 200 IM (1:59.42), followed by Mahoney in fourth (2:00.40). Closing out the meet, Hopkins won the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:09.30. Test, sophomore Teddy Bulakul (Bangakok, Thailand/Hotchkiss), Thomas and Hsieh swam the relay for the Blue Jays.

Hopkins returns to action on Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, October 27. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
