ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team opened the 2007-08 season at Navy on Friday night. The Midshipmen topped the visiting Blue Jays 162-95. Hopkins won four events at the meet

Hopkins opened the meet with a second place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. Sophomore John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose), freshman Brian Keeley (Rockford, MI/Rockford), sophomore Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) and senior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) combined for a time of 3:57.04. Junior Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) then took fifth in the 1500 Free with a time of 16:48.41.

In the 200 Free, freshman Alex Hsieh (Beijing, China/International School of Beijing) then finished third in the 200 Free with a time of 1:56.72. Sophomore John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose) then won the 100 Back finishing in 59.12. Senior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School) followed that with a win in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:06.21. Keeley finished just .30 behind Fedderly in second.

Kleinguetl finished third in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:10.75 while Test took second in the 50 Free (23.67). He followed that with a second place finish in the 100 Free in 52.01. Sophomore Neil Mahoney (Minneapolis, MN/Minnetonka) claimed third in 53.62. Thomas claimed third in the 200 Back (2:09.27) while Fedderly took third in the 200 Breast (2:29.85). Mahoney then won his first event of the season, winning the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.38. Keeley took second with a time of 2:14.45 and Fedderly claimed third in 2:19.42. Hopkins closed the meet with a win in the 400 Free Relay, though Navy swam an exhibition in the event. Test, sophomore Teddy Bulakul (Bangkok, Thailand/Hotchkiss), Thomas and Hsieh combined for a time of 3:32.62.
 

 

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, October 26 with a meet at Maryland at 3:00 pm.
