ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team opened its season with a 140-117 loss at Navy on Friday evening.

Junior John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose) took home second place in the 100 Meter Back with a time of 59.48. Senior Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) swam to a third place finish in the 200 Meter Fly with a time of 2:08.91.

Navy began swimming exhibitions with the 200 Meter Back. Thomas took first in that event with a time of 2:13.34. Freshman Stephen Niemiec (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams) followed in second (2:17.33), with freshman Patrick Lynch (Surrey, England/ACS Cobham International School) in third (2:18.95). Freshman Tim Nam (Forest Hills, NY/Bronx High School of Science) followed that by taking first in the 200 Meter Breast (2:25.13) with senior John Kegelman (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) taking second (2:34.68) and sophomore Chris Razavi (Fairport, NY/Fairport) placing third (2:35.44).

Kleinguetl then placed first in the 400 Meter Free 4:15.81. He was followed by freshmen Jonathan Gordon (Potomac, MD/Richard Montgomery) and Matt Watson (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Prep). Senior Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) took first in the 100 Meter Fly (58.39), followed by junior Spiros Moisiades (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) and sophomore John Coia (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton).

Nam won the 200 Meter IM (2:14.60) and was followed by Kleinguetl and Niemic. Hopkins wrapped up the meet by taking first in the 200 Meter Free Relay. Junior Chris Whelan (Haddonfield, NJ/Delbarton School), Thomas, junior Teddy Bulakul (Bangkok, Thailand/Hotchkiss) and freshman Nicolas Gimenez (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale) swam the relay in 1:37.48.
 

 

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, Oct. 24 as it travels to College Park, MD to take on Maryland. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
