OXFORD, OH - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team is in third place after two days at the 2008 NCAA Championships. The Blue Jays finished the day with 224 points. Kenyon sits in first place with 429 points, with Denison in second (246.5 points). Hopkins also broke two more school records today, bringing the total to six broken during this year's championship.

The day began with a silver in the 200 Medley Relay for Hopkins. Sophomore John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose), senior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School), junior Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) and senior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) placed second in a time of 1:30.32. That broke the quartet's own school record time by 1.06 seconds.

Junior Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) then placed 11th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:02.99. Sershon followed up with a 16th place finish in the 100 Fly, finishing in 50.78. Hopkins placed three in the top-16 in the 100 Breast to pick up 26 points in the team standings. Freshman Brian Keeley (Rockord, MI/Rockford) led the way with a sixth place finish (56.40), followed by Fedderly in seventh (56.76). Junior John Kegelman (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) finished in 16th with a time of 57.45.

Thomas took silver in the 100 Back and broke his own school record in the process. He finished in second in 48.95, besting his record by .42 seconds. Hopkins wrapped up the day with a fourth place finish in the 800 Free Relay. Test, sophomore Neil Mahoney (Excelsior, MN/Minnetonka), junior David Postetter (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) and Thomas swam a time of 6:43.98. Test now has five All-America honors at this championship and 23 for his career, ranking him second all-time in program history.
 

 

The championships wrap-up on Saturday with prelims scheduled to begin at 11:00 am. The finals are scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm. Events set for Saturday are the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 3M Dive, 400 Free Relay.
