Pittsburgh, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team finished with 437.5 points to win the ECAC Championships this weekend.

The Blue Jays, the lone Division III team competing at the championships, finished first out of 29 teams, while Marist was second with 409 points. Columbia came in third with 377 points, followed by Seton Hall with 370 points and Rider with 282.5 points.

Junior Jon Kleinman (North Oaks, MN/Mounds View) opened Sunday's action by finishing eighth in the 1650 freestyle in 16:22.21. Freshman Derek Monette (Templeton, MA/Gardner) then placed 14th in the 200 backstroke in 1:56.81, while senior Matt McKee (Rocky River, OH/St. Edward) came in 16th in 1:57.76.

Senior Scott Pitz (Paoli, PA/Conestoga) finished second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:05.77, while senior Loren Robinson (Coats, NC/Triton) placed seventh in 2:07.55. Sophomore Zane Hamilton (Chattanooga, TN/McCallie) was 10th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.20, and sophomore Tyler Harris (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster) came in 16th in 2:18.49.
 

 

Freshman Keith Parent (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional) followed by finishing 11th in the 200 butterfly in 1:54.91, while senior Kyle Robinson (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) was eighth in the 100 freestyle in 47.39.

The JHU 400 freestyle relay team of Harris, Hamilton, junior Paul Zalewski (St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood) and Kyle Robinson concluded the day with a third-place finish in 3:06.16.

Hopkins head coach George Kennedy was named the ECAC Men's Swimming Caoch of the Year following the meet.

The Blue Jays will compete in the NCAA Division III Championships on March 18-20 in St. Louis, MO.
