PITTSBURGH, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team finished fifth out of 24 teams and first out of all Division III schools at the ECAC Championships at Pittsburgh last weekend. The Blue Jays earned 338 points, while Rider won the meet with 415 points.

Marist placed second with 363 points, and Harvard and Seton Hall took third and fourth with 341.5 and 340 points, respectively. Johns Hopkins was in sixth place after Friday's events and jumped to second place after Saturday, just 19 points shy of Rider.

In Sunday's finals, senior Jon Kleinman (North Oaks, MN/Mounds View) placed eighth in the 1650 freestyle to earn 11 points for the Blue Jays. freshman Ryan Kim (Seoul, Korea/Georgetown Prep) placed second in the 200 backstroke to capture 17 points while senior J.P. Balfour (Plano, TX/Plano East) and sophomore Richard Guerard (Chatham, NJ/Morristown-Beard) finished eighth and 13th to combine for 15 more points in the event.
 

 

In the 100 freestyle, freshman Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) earned 14 points with a fifth-place finish before sophomore Kevin Walsh (Athens, GA/Cedar Shoals) picked up three points with 14th-place finish. Matt Fedderly placed eighth in the 200 breaststroke and Zane Hamilton finished 15th, combining for 13 points in the event.

Johns Hopkins won 18 points with a ninth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, comprised of Walsh, Test, sophomore Tyler Harris (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster) and Hamilton.
