CHARLOTTE, NC - The Johns Hopkins men’s swim team earned four medals on the third day of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship. Wingate continues to lead the championship with 514 points, with Hopkins in second with 471.5 points and Washington & Lee rounds out the top three with 288.5 points.

Hopkins opened the day with a silver medal finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomore Dylan Coggin, senior Chris Razavi, sophomore Carter Gisriel and freshman Will Kimball swam the relay in 1:32.16, an NCAA B qualifying time. The Blue Jays then picked up 47 points in the 400 IM. Junior Markus Kowalsky led the contingent with a bronze medal finish with an NCAA B and career best time of 4:04.08. Junior Patrick Lynch followed in fifth in 4:09.59 and freshman Mike Leddy in eighth with a time of 4:11.73. Freshman Joe Acquaviva then finished in third in the B Final, to finish 11th overall, with a career-best time of 4:11.07.

Sophomore Nick Schmidt followed with a bronze medal in the 100 Fly in a career-best and NCAA B time of 49.68. Gisriel touched in 49.78, an NCAA B time, to finish in a tie for fifth. Sophomore Tyler Woods placed fifth in the B Final, to finish 13th overall, with a finals time of 51.24.

Five Blue Jays placed in the top eight of the 200 Free to accumulate 69 points. Freshman Anthony Lordi led the way with a silver medal finish with an NCAA B time of 1:40.77. Kimball placed fourth in 1:42.03, an NCAA B time, followed by junior Stephen Niemiec in fifth in 1:42.62. Freshman Theo Leclere finished in 1:43.60 to place seventh and just edge out junior Dan Raynard, who touched in 1:43.62 to finish eighth.


 

 

Junior Tim Nam earned a fifth place finish in the 100 Breast with an NCAA B time of 57.68, while freshman Alex Polyak took seventh in 58.64 and Razavi took eighth in 59.29. Hopkins wrapped up the day with four swimmers scoring in the 100 Back. Acquaviva placed seventh with a finals time of 52.92. Schmidt then took second in the B Final, to finish 10th overall, with a finals time of 52.52. Freshman David Woodford finished right behind in third, 11th overall, with a time of 52.57. And Coggin placed seventh, 15th overall, as he clocked in at 53.57.

The 2011 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship wraps up on Saturday, February 19 at 10:00 am at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club. The day is set to begin at 10:00 am with the preliminary of the 200 Back. Finals are scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.
