CHARLOTTE, NC – The Johns Hopkins men’s swim team opened up the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship with a podium finish in the 800 Free Relay. The Blue Jays, in just their third season in the BMC, are seeking their first title. JHU finishes day one in sixth place with 32 points. Host Wingate holds the lead after day one with 102 points.

Hopkins had no entrants in the 1000 Free and swam just the 800 Free Relay on the first day of the championship. The Blue Jays finished in third place as junior Nick Schmidt, sophomore Will Kimball, freshman Ryan Cunningham and junior Dylan Coggin swam a time of 6:46.97 for the bronze medal.

The Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship continues on Thursday, February 16 from the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club. The prelim for the 500 Free will kick things off at 10:00 am with the finals slated to begin at 6:00 pm. For video and live stat links, visit the championship website here.
