CHAPEL HILL, NC - Johns Hopkins senior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) won three events on Saturday in a tri-meet with North Carolina and Emory. #3 Hopkins defeated #4 Emory 144-136. The Blue Jays then fell to the #14 Tar Heels 158-130. Hopkins is now 8-3 on the season, with all three of its losses coming to Division I schools.

Test won the 50 Free (20.95), the 100 Free (45.95) and the 200 Free (1:41.68). Sophomore Neil Mahoney (Excelsior, MN/Minnetonka) finished in third in the 100 Free with a career best time of 46.83. Freshman Brian Keeley (Rockford, MI/Rockford) picked up a win for the Blue Jays, taking first in the 100 Breast in a career best time of 56.93. Senior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School) came in second behind Keeley in 57.33.

The Blue Jays opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of sophomore John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose), Keeley, sophomore Spiros Moisiades (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) and Mahoney finished in 1:34.25. Junior Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) took fifth in the 1000 Free in 9:51.70. While junior David Postetter (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) finished in sixth in a time of 10:11.97. Thomas then took second in the 100 Back (50.61) and 200 Back (1:50.53).

Fedderly and Keeley then finished two-three in the 200 Breast. Fedderly took second in 2:03.68, a career best time. While Keeley finished in 2:06.04, also a career best time. Moisiades finished in second in the 100 Fly in a season-best time of 51.65. Coming in fourth was junior Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) in 51.99.
 

 

In the 200 IM, Keeley led a Blue Jays sweep of the top three spots. He won the event in a season-best time of 1:54.81. Following in second was Fedderly, also with a season-best time (1:55.09) and in third was Mahoney (1:55.53). Hopkins closed out the meet by taking first and fourth in the 400 Free Relay. The team of freshman Alex Hsieh (Beijing, China/International School of Beijing), Thomas, sophomore Teddy Bulakul (Bangkok, Thailand/Hotchkiss), and Test won the relay in 3:07.13. Coming in fourth in a time of 3:14.54 were sophomore AJ Blood (McClean, VA/Sidwell Friends), sophomore Chris Whelan (Tewksbury, NJ/Delbarton), Postetter and Moisiades.

Hopkins has the next two weeks off as the Blue Jays prepare for the 2008 ECAC Championships. The conference championships will be held in Pittsburgh, PA from February 29 to March 2. Last the season the Blue Jays finished in fourth at the ECAC's after winning the title in 2006.
