TOWSON, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team picked up 13 points in the final event of the meet to take a 132-130 win over host Towson Friday afternoon. The win evens the Blue Jays dual-meet record at 4-4 heading into Saturday's final dual-meet of the season. Hopkins travels to Washington & Lee for an 11:00 am non-conference meet. Hopkins opened the meet by taking first and third in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of senior John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose), sophomore Tim Nam (Forest Hills, NY/Bronx High School of Science), freshman Nick Schmidt (Bells, TN/University School of Jackson) and senior Neil Mahoney (Excelsior, MN/Minnetonka) took first with a time of 1:36.30, nearly two seconds faster than the Towson team. The team of Preston Youngdahl (Wayzata, MN/Minnetonka), senior Chris Razavi (Fairport, NY/Fairport), sophomore Eddy Zandee (Kailua, HI/Punahou) and senior Chris Whelan (Haddonfield, NJ/Delbarton School) finished in third with a time of 1:38.40. Freshman Kevin Morlock (Kingsville, MD/Perry Hall) then took second in the 1000 Free, finishing in 9:50.01, besting his previous season-best time by more than 12 seconds. Sophomore Stephen Niemiec (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester Adams) and freshman Carter Gisriel (Lutherville, MD/Towson) then finished first and third, respectively in the 200 Free. Niemiec won the event with a time of 1:44.88, a season-best time. Gisriel clocked in at 1:45.60, also a season-best. Hopkins then picked up 14 points in the 100 Back, fueled by Thomas' win with a time of 51.53. Freshman Dylan Coggin (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) took third in 54.68, while senior Teddy Bulakul (Bangkok, Thailand/Hotchkiss) finished in fourth with a time of 55.05, both season-best times. Mahoney and Razavi then went two-three in the 100 Breast. Mahoney finished in second with a career-best time of 1:00.54, followed by Razavi in 1:01.63. Schmidt took second in the 200 Fly, clocking in at 1:57.10, while freshman Connor Murphy (Cheshire, CT/Choate Rosemary Hall) finished in fourth in 2:00.57. In the 50 Free, Thomas and Whelan combined to go second-third. Thomas clocked in at 21.64, just .01 off his career best time, and Whelan finished in 21.89. Hopkins then went two-three-four in the 100 Free, picking up nine points. Bulakul took second with a season-best time of 47.32. Schmidt followed in third in 48.17, with Zandee taking fourth 48.52 - both season-best times. Freshman Durgesh Das (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor) finished in second in the 200 Back with a time of 1:58.03. While Nam and freshman Jason Ho (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) finshed two-three in the 200 Breast, both with season-best times. Nam clocked in a 2:09.91, followed by Ho in 2:15.79. In the 100 Fly, Gisriel took the win with a time of 52.33, while Murphy took third in 53.71, to pick up 12 points for the Blue Jays. Hopkins picked up 16 more points, sweeping the top three spots in the 200 IM. Niemiec took the win, clocking in at 1:59.03. Nam followed in second in 1:59.60 and Mahoney in third in 2:00.34. Hopkins wrapped up the meet taking first and third in the 400 Free Relay to pick up 13 points and the win. The team of Whelan, Bulakul, Mahoney and Thomas won the event in 3:09.60, just 0.20 ahead of Towson. The team of Zandee, Schmidt, Gisriel and Coggin followed in third in a time of 3:11.25.
