EWING, NJ - The Johns Hopkins men's swim team defeated TCNJ 184.50-165.50 but fell to Division II West Chester 240-124 in a tri-meet at TCNJ. The Blue Jays are now 5-4 on the season. Freshmen Neil Mahoney (Minneapolis, MN/Minnetonka) and John Thomas (Portsmouth, NH/St. Thomas Aquinas) led the Blue Jays with a pair of wins each.

The 200 Medley Relay team opened with a second place finish with the time of 1:37.87. Thomas swam the first leg, followed by junior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School), sophomore Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) and senior Kevin Walsh (Athens, GA/Cedear Shoals). Mahoney then won his first event of the weekend, winning the 400 IM in 4:15.13. Sershon then took third in the 100 Fly (53.11).

Thomas won the 100 Back with a time of 53.23. Sophomore Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) then took second in the 500 Free, finishing in 4:47.59. The 200 Free Relay took third, finishing in 1:28.20. Walsh swam the first leg, followed by freshmen AJ Blood (McClean, VA/Sidwell Friends), Teddy Bulakul (Bangkok, Thailand/Hotchkiss) and Thomas. The 800 Free Relay team then took third (7:13.86). Freshman James Neuwirth (Ross, CA/Phillips Academy Andover) swam the first leg, followed by sophomore David Postetter (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor), Mahoney and Kleinguetl.
 

 

Kleinguetl took second in the 1650 Free with a time of (16:30.71). The 400 Medley Relay team then finished in third (3:35.11). Thomas swam the first leg, followed by Fedderly, senior Keith Parent (Amherst, MA/Amherst Regional) and Neuwirth. Mahoney got his second win, finishing the 200 IM in 1:58.51. Junior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) got a win in the 50 Free with a time of 21.57. Thomas got his second win in the 200 Back, finishing in 1:56.94. Sophomore John Kegelman (Yorktown, PA/Tabb) finished in second in the 200 Breast (2:14.92) with freshman Todd Spock (Niceville, FL/Niceville) taking third (2:15.66). The 400 Free Relay wrapped things up with a third place finish (3:13.23). Thomas, Mahoney, Neuwirth and Bulakul swam the relay.

Hopkins returns to action on January 27, 2007 when Washington & Lee visits Baltimore. The meet is set to begin at 12:30 pm. This will be the Blue Jays final dual meet of the season as the ECAC Championships follow in mid-February.
