EWING, NJ -- The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team picked up an impressive sweep of national powers West Chester and The College of New Jersey this weekend at TCNJ. The Blue Jays defeated West Chester, 175.5-174.5 and TCNJ, 212-120. West Chester finished fourth at last season's NCAA Division II National Championships, while New Jersey placed eighth at the NCAA Division III Championships.

The Blue Jays had three individuals win a pair of events and Hopkins won two relays to fuel the victory. Junior J.P. Balfour (Plano, TX/Plano East) and senior Scott Pitz (Paoli, PA/Conestoga) won a pair of events and were members of both first-place relay teams.

Balfour won the 400 IM (4:07.41) and the 200 back (1:55.78) and swam the first leg of Hopkins' 200 medley relay (1:37.45) and 400 medley relay (3:32.13) teams, which both placed first. Pitz claimed the 100 breast (59.48) and the 200 breast (2:10.85) and was also a member of the two victorious relay teams.

Sophomore Matt Chana (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) was Hopkins' other double-winner as he placed first in the 500 free (4:41.70) and the 1650 free (16:24,09).

Senior Kyle Robinson (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) was a member of the winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams and placed second in the 100 free (48.16), while sophomore Tyler Harris (Lancaster, OH/Lancaster) swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay, placed second in the 200 IM (2:01.60) and third in the 100 fly (53.28), the 100 breast (59.74) and the 200 breast (2:12.13). Sophomore Brian Sneed (Chattanooga, TN/McCallie) swan the anchor leg of the winning 400 medley relay and added a second-place finish in the 200 fly (1:59.12) and a third-place showing in the 200 free (1:47.74).
