BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins senior Matty Carlson (Bristol, CT/Loomis Chaffee) earned NSCAA/adidas All-America honors on Friday for the second straight season. A First Team All-Mid Atlantic selection, Carlson is joined on the all-region team by sophomore Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, MA/Bourne) and freshman Corey Adams (Cedar Grove, NJ/Seton Hall Prep).
Carlson, who earns Second Team All-America honors, is just the fifth player in Johns Hopkins history to repeat as an All-American. A two-time First Team All-Mid Atlantic selection, he was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year in 2008 and a unanimous first team pick by the conference's coaches. Carlson, who captained the Blue Jays for three seasons, earned All-Centennial Conference honors in three straight seasons. He is the 11th player in JHU history to earn All-Centennial honors three times and finished his career with 11 goals and four assists from his midfield position. He also ranks second all time in career games played with 84.
Bukoski, a Second Team All-Mid Atlantic selection, earns all-region honors for the second straight season after earning first team honors in 2007. A two-time First Team All-Centennial Conference selection, he led Hopkins in goals (9), assists (5) and points (25). He is one of five sophomores on the three all-region teams and is just the sixth sophomore in school history to earn all-region honors. A first team all-region pick in 2007, Bukoski is the first player since 1994-95 to lead the Blue Jays in scoring in his first two seasons. He already ranks 13th in school history in career points (69), tied for eighth in goals (29), sixth in game-winning goals (10) and tied for 20th in assists (11).
Adams joins Bukoski on the second team and is the only freshman to earn All-Mid Atlantic honors by the NSCAA. A Second Team All-Centennial Conference selection, he was one of just two freshmen to earn all-conference honors. The fifth freshman in JHU history to earn NSCAA All-Region honors, he is the first freshman defender to do since Peter Kahn in 1994. Adams anchored a defense that allowed just 18 goals on the season (0.78/game). Hopkins advanced to the Sweet Sixteen before falling in a penalty kick shootout. The Blue Jays did not surrender a goal in the tournament, posting three straight shutouts.
Hopkins now boasts 23 NSCAA All-America selections, including atleast one selection in the last three seasons. The Blue Jays have also had 43 all-region selections since 1989. Hopkins will return eight starters in 2009 from this season's team that went 13-5-5, finished as the Centennial Conference runner-up and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
