The Team: Johns Hopkins is 15-3 after falling to Gettysburg Friday in the Centennial Conference Tournament Semifinals

The Team: Johns Hopkins is 15-3 after falling to Gettysburg Friday in the Centennial Conference Tournament Semifinals.

The Coach: Matt Smith (Towson, `88) is in his ninth year as head coach of the Blue Jays. He is the program's all-time winningest coach with a 136-30-9 record entering the ECAC Tournament. Smith has led JHU to the NCAA Tournament in five of the last eight years, and has guided the Blue Jays to postseason play in eight straight seasons.

The Results: Gettysburg midfielder Michael Sarbaugh scored the game-winning goal with 27:44 remaining in the match to lift the Bullets over Hopkins, 2-1, at Homewood Field on Friday. Chad Tarabolous (Tulsa, OK/Cascia Hall) scored the only Blue Jays' goal in the 42nd minute when he collected a header from Ryan Hanley (Hickory, NC/St. Stephens) and beat the Gettysburg keeper from 10 yards out.

The ECAC Tournament: Johns Hopkins received the No. 1 seed in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region, the conference announced Monday. The Blue Jays will play the winner of Wednesday's Moravian vs. Grove City game Saturday at 2 p.m. on the campus of Western Maryland College. The Green Terror received the No. 2 seed and will host the semifinals and finals on Saturday and Sunday. On Wednesday, No. 3 seed Franklin & Marshall will host No. 6 seed Frostburg State and No. 4 seed Moravian will host No. 5 seed Grove City. Western Maryland will play the winner of the Franklin & Marshall-Frostburg State game Saturday at 11 a.m., while Hopkins will play the winner of the Moravian-Grove City game at 2 p.m. The championship game will be Sunday at 1 p.m.

Brienza, Hack Named to Academic Honor Roll: Juniors Daniel Brienza (Farmingville, NY/Sachem) and Adam Hack (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) were named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll on Friday. Brienza is an economics/computer science major, while Hack is an economics/business major. 21 men's soccer players in the league received the honor.

Tough Competition: JHU's win over No. 18 Drew marked the Blue Jays' first win over a ranked opponent since a 2-1 victory over No. 6 Rowan on October 8, 1998. This season Hopkins also defeated Gettysburg, Western Maryland, Muhlenberg, and Franklin & Marshall, all of whom were ranked in the Mid-Atlantic Region when they played Hopkins.

Tarabolous Named To Centennial Honor Roll: Chad Tarabolous was named to the Centennial Conference Honor Roll this week after scoring the Blue Jays' only goal in the 2-1 loss to Gettysburg. The sophomore midfielder, who ranks second on the team with nine goals and 25 points, also received the honor on September 17.

Doran Heading West: Matthew Doran (Stormville, NY/John Jay) is closing in on the Johns Hopkins and Centennial Conference career records for goals and points. All four records are held by Eric West, who played at Hopkins from 1994-97. Doran is in second place on all four lists, he needs four goals and seven points to overtake West.
