Oct. 30, 2009

BALTIMORE, MD - Three members of the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team have been honored by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA). Senior Ravi Gill (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) and sophomores Corey Adams (Cedar Grove, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and Drew Holland (Sudbury, MA/Belmont Hill School) have been named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II teams. The trio brings the program's total all-district selections to 21.

The District II region includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.

Gill, who earned second team honors, has played all but 12 minutes in the goal for the Blue Jays. He boasts a goals against average of 0.52 and a save percentage of .878. Entering this week, Gill led the Centennial Conference and ranked seventh in the NCAA in both categories. He is 12-3-2 this season with nine shutouts and had shutout streaks of 418:41 and 355:31 earlier this season. A three-time Centennial Conference Player of the Week, he already ranks seventh in JHU history in career shutouts and ninth in career saves. Gill has interned with both MTV and the NY Red Bulls of Major League Soccer and worked on the Obama Campaign. In addition, he is a volunteer coach for his temple's boys' and girls' soccer teams and is a Special Olympics volunteer. Gill is majoring in economics and has a 3.57 cumulative GPA.

Holland, also a second team selection, is a key part of a defense that has allowed just 10 goals on the season and has posted 10 shutouts. Entering this week's action, the Blue Jays led the Centennial Conference and ranked seventh in the NCAA in goals against average. He started 18 games last season as a rookie on a defense that allowed just 18 goals and posted three straight shutouts in the NCAA Tournament. Off the field, he tutors children in Chinese, volunteers for his high school alumni relations department and volunteers at a nursing home. While in high school, Holland coached a special needs soccer team. An economics major, Holland boasts a 3.82 cumulative GPA.

Adams, a third team selection, anchors the Hopkins defense alongside Holland. A co-captain this season, he has started all but four games in his career. Adams earned Second Team All-Centennial Conference and NSCAA All-Region honors in 2008 and was the only freshman named to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic team. He has volunteered with Operation Smile and Habitat for Humanity and will intern with the Governor of Alabama this summer. Adams is a political science major and has a cumulative GPA of 3.33.

Hopkins, currently ranked 18th by the NSCAA, wraps up the regular season Saturday, October 31 at Washington College.
